A simple website may have various functions, generally introduction of the company, providing important information and generating interest. A simple company website presents the products and services, provides contact information and shows educational content (for example, blog posts). However, none of these functions demand such a complex technical background as creating and maintaining webshops does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While anyone can create a website by purchasing the necessary domain name and hosting, the situation is more complex when it comes to online stores. Webshops are websites too, but they require more complex functionality; product listings, shopping carts, integrated payment methods. Additionally, it is essential to address the legal aspects of operating these functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For these reasons creating a webshop is far more complex than creating a simple introduction website. So, if building a webshop is your goal, you need to consider carefully which platform you want to use. WordPress is an option with webstores as well, and of course there are platforms created specifically for building online stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the downside, there is no free version. Packages start at $29 per month, and the software charges 2.4% to 2.9% per transaction. In addition, the options for design and functionality extensions are relatively limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shoprenter - A Real Hungarian Platform!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Shoprenter<\/a> is a Hungarian-developed, cloud-based platform, specifically tailored to the needs of the Hungarian market. With this software you are guaranteed to launch your own online shop quickly and easily.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its advantages include the possibility to integrate numerous payment instruments used in Hungary, such as Barion, OTP SimplePay and PayPal. Even though using the software does not require deep programming knowledge, Shoprenter offers the possibility for pretty advanced customization. As it can handle higher traffic, Shoprenter is a good choice not only for beginners - it can be used to run more serious online shops as well. Even so - though no free version is available - the basic package deal is relatively cheap; you can launch your webshop for a monthly fee of 15.000 HUF (~$37).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the downside, however, Shoprenter does not offer as many international features as, say, Shopify, which can be a serious limitation for those looking to enter global markets from Hungary and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unas - Another Strong Hungarian Site<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Unas<\/a> is also a Hungarian site, created specifically for the Hungarian market. Thus, its main strengths include support for local services and legislation (for example: integration of Hungarian VAT and tax returns).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The advantages of Unas include greater customization features and support for the continued growth of webshops - there is no need to move the site if it suddenly needs to serve a larger customer base. Another important advantage is the ability to integrate third-party applications. And this does not only mean Hungarian payment providers (Barion, PayPal, SimplePay, etc.), but also, for example, Google Analytics (which is actually more of a must have), various SEO tools and marketing automation systems. Furthermore, as a cloud-based service, there is no need to maintain your own server, Unas provides full hosting services, including continuous backups. Additionally it is worth mentioning that Unas has a very helpful support team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, this webshop building system has its drawbacks as well. The high degree of customization comes with a more complex setup and interface; modifying the system templates may require some developer skills. Another disadvantage is that there is no free version; the initial package costs 12.990 HUF (~$33) per month and accessing higher functionality may include extra costs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The advantages of Prestashop include the fact that it is free to download and use, and that all elements are fully customizable. Also there are plenty of tools and extensions available, from payment options integration to marketing and SEO tools. In addition, the multilingual and multi-currency support allows you to sell to different markets, making the platform ideal for those who trade internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the downside, there are hidden costs. Although the system includes free elements, the premium templates and modules, web hosting service and development are all expensive, so you can pay as much or more to set up and run a webshop in Prestashop than in any other software. Furthermore, as is typical of open source software, regular updates and maintenance are required, which can be money- and time-consuming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most important advantage of WordPress is the ecosystem that surrounds it. As it became so popular, a large industry has been built to support WordPress-based websites. WooCommerce is a webshop-builder for WordPress, which is also free to use, with payment required only for certain extensions. Our company also uses WooCommerce for building online stores, and we would recommend it to others because it offers far more customization and development options than traditional, simpler webshop creation systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similar to Prestashop, the WordPress download itself is free. However, you will need to pay for the required infrastructure (hosting, domain) and certain plugins. (There are also plugins available for free, and in some cases, the free version can be upgraded with paid add-ons, or there are paid plugins available.) Additionally, you should consider the developers\u2019 hourly rates if you plan to entrust experts with building your website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, WordPress is not perfect. We have already mentioned that it is more complicated to use than an average website editor, but there is one more thing we need to talk about; and that is maintenance. WordPress developers and the community are continuously working on fixing bugs, but if you do not update your website, you could still be exposed to attacks caused by a specific plugin vulnerability. Of course, this does not mean that WordPress-based websites cannot be secure. Regular maintenance and updates alone can prevent most bugs, and there are security plugins available to make websites extra secure. Our company also uses such a plugin, WordFence, so we are definitely protected against attacks. Nevertheless, it is important to be cautious, and continuous maintenance is crucial for not only the safety, but the performance, speed, and compatibility of the website with specific devices as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not to mention, this is the most cost-effective solution, even though a good specialist's help is important for perfect implementation. This may sound like an unnecessary expense at first, but for those planning for the long term, this investment will definitely pay off!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, your needs may differ: when you decide whether to use a website builder system, an e-commerce platform, or WordPress, you should base your decision on your own needs.
